ABOUT

By day, I am a professor of English, a writer, and an editor. I live in Flagstaff, Arizona, a lovely mountain town at 7,000 feetthink pine trees not giant cactibut I hope to make my way back to Washington State, preferably somewhere with a view of Mt. Rainier and the Pacific Ocean. When I’m not knee-deep in words, I’m usually hiking in the woods with my two dogs, camping or backpacking, photographing things, or trying to figure out the meaning of life.

By night, I am a level seven guitar player on Yousician. I like to frighten myself by thinking about the immensity of the universe and the weirdness of the quantum world. I spend too much time watching true crime and trolling YouTube for proof of the supernatural, often with my cat, Ferris Mewler, on my lap. Though I have a terrible fear of the ocean and sharks, I recently got my scuba diving certification and discovered that my worst fear—swimming in open water at night—is also one of my favorite things ever, and I can’t wait to do it again.
