PRICING

UNFORTUNATELY, WE MUST NOW DISCUSS MONEY

Yep. Because if we’re not comfortable with the business side of our relationship, it’s going to affect the work. And the work is the part we actually care about.

I’ve hired people to help me with my own writing and creative projects, and I know how yucky it is to pay someone to help you with your work and then feel like they didn't come through.

That’s why I believe in talking openly about rates, expectations, and process up front. If either of us feels uncertain, resentful, pressured, undervalued, or unclear about the arrangement, it will eventually find its way into the creative work itself. Good editor-writer relationships require both creative trust and practical trust.

I will always explain why I charge what I do. I will always be honest about what I think a project needs and whether I’m the right person for it. I will also make it easy for you to give feedback about my services and for us to part ways if the fit stops fitting.

Your side of the bargain: you let me know if you ever feel like I'm failing to deliver on my side of the arrangement.

My goal is simple: for you to leave feeling that you received thoughtful, serious, deeply engaged help that was worth both your time and your money.  And then to tell a friend. And another.

RATES

Standard service rates for completed work:

  • Developmental Editing ($0.05-0.10/word): For writers with a manuscript in progress who need help with big-picture revision involving structure, argument, pacing, or narrative development. You receive a detailed set of editorial notes and in-text comments (and/or a letter, depending on the project), along with guidance on revision priorities.

  • Line Editing ($0.02-0.03/word): For writers with a manuscript that needs attention at the level of language, clarity, and flow. This work focuses on refining sentence-level expression, improving readability and ensuring consistency of voice and style. You receive a copy of your manuscript with suggested edits and explanatory comments where needed.

  • Manuscript Assessment ($0.01 – 0.03/word): For writers with a completed draft who want an overall evaluation of strengths, weaknesses, and next steps. You receive a detailed editorial letter (2–10 pages depending on manuscript length and depth of feedback requested).

Hourly packages: For writers who need more than just edits. Buy a block of hours and use them however you need, whenever you need them. I offer a variety of specialized sessions, including real-time editing (where we talk through changes as I work through your text) and story or idea workshops (for writers who want help clarifying structure, plot, character arcs, or argument before they begin writing).
